Rabies in Tibet |
|
|
I have heard some information concerning the need for a rabies vaccination in Tibet and so I wanted to get some clarification on this issue:
Are dogs a problem only in remote areas or are they a problem in Lhasa as well? I only plan to stay in Lhasa and the surrounding areas such as Drepung, Ganden and Serap monasteries and Yamdrok Yutso Lake. I plan to travel to these locations by taxi or a car. Due to time constraints, I will not be doing any trekking or going off the beaten path.
Are dogs and rabies a problem in the city of Lhasa or the areas mentioned above? |

I was in Tibet for a month and I never had a problem with dogs. I heard the same thing before going, but the entire time I was there, I rarely came across any dogs except up around Namtso Lake. And when I did, they were too busy fighting each other to bother with anything else.
The entire week I was in Lhasa, I never even noticed any dogs. So no, I wouldn't say they're a problem. |
