Lijiang to Lhasa overland: how? |
I would like to make a trip from Lijiang (around Tiger leap gorge) to Lhasa by Chamdo overland. Is this possible? I presume that you have to do this with a chinese travel agency and that most likely only an organized tour is possible? Is this true? How much does it cost and where can I book it? And how many days will this tour take? Thank you very much for your reply!!!!!!!! |

Its possible to go overland from Yunnan to Lhasa. You need some special permits for that area which means that unless you try to hitchhike in illegally its an tour with driver, 4wd and possible a guide. Its bloody expensive from Yunnan compared to the tours you can arrange inside Tibet. An 8 days tours are quoted for 20000 rmb (here on TT). The best way is to habg around Lijiang for other travellers to fill up a 4wd and then go through a local travelagency. |
