Weather during Rainy Season? |

Because of child care constraints, we're forced to travel during the July-August time frame this summer, and we're looking at 2 weeks in China. Are we crazy to consider travel during this season? I understand it's the rainy season and hot. How bad will the rains be? Do they make touring very difficult?
Thanks. |

It depends on where you go. The worst place in China to visit during July/August is the Three Gorges area from Chongqing to Wuhan.
Most of the east and south will be drenched in daily downpours; from Hangzhou to Guilin and Yunnan expect plenty of precipitation.
There are a few popular places where heavy rain can make touring difficult; the best example being Huangshan because it involves hiking on slippery mountain terrain.
So where are the best places to go in China during July/August? Tibet,Xinjiang , Inner Mongolia, and northern Sichuan (Jiuzhaigou/Huanglong/Songpan) are ideal destinations that will have more pleasant weather conditions. Dalian, Qingdao, Qinhuangdao, and Chengde are popular summer destinations among domestic Chinese tourists because they are northern destinations where one can escape the heat, however the urban centers of Beijing, Xi'an, and even Shenyang can still get uncomfortably hot.
Have a good time! |
