Dali or Lijiang?
I have 3 days to spend in the area, so don't want to spread myself too thin by trying to do both. So, which city and surrounding area do you prefer? Why?
Thanks!! |

Dali is more commercial and should be livelier than Lijiang at the moment. There is better accomodation and nightlife. I guess it's pretty chilly at the moment, but we enjoyed some good cycling from there.
Lijiang had more charm - but I guess it must be quieter at this time of year. It's further away too. There is a nice hilly area to explore, but I assume it is less accessible at present. If you are into smoking, it is more acceptable here.

You would better go for Lijiang. The old part of Lijiang town is just as commercial as Dali old town, but I think the scenery is better in Lijiang and it has a more rugged and remote feel about it. Both have mountains and lakes, but Lijiang is the place you will remember most when you think of Yunnan. I guess it all depends on what you seek and what you experience when you get there. No matter what you choose, you will enjoy it I am sure. |
