Worried about altitude sickness |

Hello! My wife and I am planning a trip to Tibet, probably the Intrepid Expeditions 2 week Tibet tour, for late July 2006. However, I am still feeling a little trepidation about altitude sickness. I've been ready a bunh of scary websites about it, and what I would love to hear are personal anectdoes from those who have been to Tibet and can tell me just how bad it gets. I mean, is it like having a bad cold, or a migraine, or mono, or...? Basically, is it annoying, or downright debilitating and misery-inducing?
My wife and I are both 29 and in fair but not athletic shape, no previous record of health problems, planning to bring diamox (anyone have diamox stories, good or ill?)...adventurous, but not wishig to spend all that time and money and be too sick to really appreciate the trip.
Any advice or anecdotes you have would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Dont worry at all, just take it slow the first days and get adjusted to the situation. For example, a simple walk up the hill of the Potala on the first day can be exhausting, so take it easy, you don't have to run from the start. Except a little breathless in the beginning, will not have any problems.
Have fun and enjoy your trip - Tibet is fascinating! |
