Would like to visit the THREE GORGES during Chinese New Year, my questions as follows:
1. Will the river boats be operating?
2. Is it safe for me to travel alon?, plan to cover all the neigbouring areas ending back to Shanghai where I will be starting my journey from

Both yes,I think
boats are still operating and I assure you that you will be safe
because this travel line is so prosper and even many of us(Chinese)go this trip.
