am in the planning stage of a March 2005 trip to China. I will be visiting Beijing, Datong and Xian.
I plan to take an overnight train from Beijing to Datong.
I would prefer to fly from Datong to Xian if possible, but so far I can not find any arrangements.
Because my time is so short I don't want to use a train the entire distance to Xian.
Can you recommend a nearby town which I can travel from Datong by train and then fly to Xian?
I've read that air travel from Datong is in the works. Does anyone know about this ?
Do you have any other suggestions?
I think I have read all tips so far on train travel but have not found any about this particular travel.

u can take the local bus from datong to tai yuan, then fly to xian from there. but supposed it won't save lots of ur time by doing this.
as i remember, there should be some night train u can take from datong to xian.
