silk-road travel for 19 days from Xian to Hotan,can u help? |

Hi,
I'm finalizing my plans for China (Xian to Xinjiang) and I've about 19 days (from mid Dec 2005) to cover from Xian to Hotan via the Southern Silk Road (train, bus, etc) and back.
Besides Xian, along the way I'm planning to be at Lanzhou, Xining, Golmud (only to catch the next transport option to Huatugou), Charklik, Cherchen, Hotan.
1] Since it is in the midst of winter, does the transport i.e. bus runs regularly between Golmud to Hotan via the Southern Silk Road major towns/cities (as mentioned above)?
2] Is it possible to do this within 19 days? If not should I just focus visiting major towns/cities from Xian to Hotan?
3] Besides down jacket do I need to bring items like down pants and down sleeping bag to survive this trip in the winter?
I've heard about the harsh winter in Xinjiang and I just want to be ready for any eventuality. I've gone thru several winter expeditions in Himalaya and Europe.
4] Is there anything I shouldn't missed (things to do/visit) between Xian to Hotan
Thanks in advance! |

Hi,
1.the bus never be influenced of season . don't worry about the bus between these two destination .but you should change bus during this as there is no direct bus for so long route.
2.19 days are quite enought for scenic spots of the cities you mentioned.
3.Xinjiang is cold now. take down pants and down sleeping bag is necessary.
4. don't miss Ethnic museum in Urumqi and don't forget to eat Polo that is the greatest food on your travel.
have fun |
