visiting bj early April people are asking for mobile phones prada t-shirts and other designer clothes do not want to promise things if there not there.Seen a tv program were they were selling t-shirts of stalls in the street and showed a shopping centre being built saying they would be moving in there.

The phones here use sim cards and GSM technology. I don't know if this is the same as where you are. There are a lot of cute and tech type gadgets that phone people would love. As for "designer" tee shirts. (Please note the quotation marks) there are many places to buy them. The place you mention sounds like Silk Street or Silk Alley as it is sometimes called. Here is the low down...They just took the scaffolding down from the new, improved Silk Market which will be an indoor building. Word has it that the orignial crammed street will be gone very soon. Having said that, there are at least a dozen other places that have this type of merchandise. I think the best deals can be had at a place called Nu Ren Jie, not far from the Great Wall Sheraton. There is also Jia Yi Market across from the Kunlun Hotel with tons of designer knock offs of everything from bags to underwear. Not far from both of these is the YaXiu market, five plus floors of stalls. All of the places I mentioned are near the third ring road less than 20 RMB taxi fare from most big hotels down town, only 10-12 from big hotels in Chaoyang.
