Downstream Yangtze River Cruise:

The fact is that there are more people take downstream cruises starting from Chongqing. The possible reasons are as follows:
1) Chongqing is bigger and easier to access from Beijing,Xian or Guilin and so on.
2) Cultually speaking, Chinese and Southeast Asian people like taking downstream ones, which is believed to bring them good fortune.
3) Some travellers don't have enough time, so they take the less time-taking downstream ones .
As there are more people takes downstream cruises, it's more expensive and more crowded. If your time permits, you may take the Yichang - Chongqing cruises, the section between Yichang and Chongqing is the Three Gorges.

It is okay to travel any time the ships are sailing. The most popular times to cruise are April, May, September, October and even November as the good weather lingers much longer in China than in North America.
Normally, the April, May, September and October are taken as peak seasons with much higher price. You may try a Yangtze Cruise in March, June, July and August for a lower cruise fee.
