wall tour at the frist of october |

We will end up in Beijing on Oct 1, departing the morning of Oct 2, because that's the airfare that worked out. In reading previous postings, it sounds like going to the Wall on that day is out of the question. Will the Wall be more "normal" on either the 29th or 30th? What is a good alternative to Beijing or the Wall for the day of Oct 1? It sounds as if there aren't a lot of interesting festivities in the city. for the holiday. (?) Is there an interesting place outside the city (that transportation wouldn't be a big pain to) or just a more non-touristy area of town in which to hang out? We don't mind walking or biking (if that's safe!) |

It should be possible to hire a car/driver or get a taxi for the day if you did want to see the great wall. Might be the best option as buses will be very busy taking locals to and from the wall. A car and driver for the day should be around 500-800RMB (compared to the cheapest bus option of about 30RMB per person), and you will need to pay for the driver to get into the attractions (if requested) and provide lunch (usually a a restaurant). Your hotel/accommodation in beijing should be able to recommend a car and driver (or taxi) to you.
It is a popular time for locals to travel around so expect the great wall to be very busy with locals. |

The 1st October starts a week long holiday, for most Chinese, therefore all the tourist attractions will be packed, the 29th/30th will be quieter, but internal tourism is big in China so quiet days in good weather aren't quiet ,If you don't go to Badaling section of the wall, it will be quieter, since that appears to be the most visited section.
have a good tour! |
