what is the best option for getting to Chengdu from HK? |
|
|
I am travelling around SW China for a month is September.... starting in ChengDu.
I fly into HK tho, so what is the best option for getting to Chengdu from there? HK Dragon Air have a flight for about $250 one way ... is that the cheapest I can expect or are there any other airlines that do routes like that?
Or is there a long distance bus I can take for a lot less and won't take a week from either HK or Shenzen?
if I take a train don't I have to change in Beijing? I'd rather go direct, and not spend a fortune if possible...
thanks for an help or advice |

really long tour. Get yourself to Guangzhou - Ferry is a couple of hours and quite good I think, or hop over to Shenzhen and travel with China Travel Service (CTS/CITS-listings available online somewhere probably). I usually find an airline company attached to a 4 or 5 star hotel and ask them...I'm flying from Guangzhou to Chengdu tomorrow, paying around £50. You can travel by train between other destinations or take flights for about the same cost to other cities....but don't pay $250! Flight is a couple of hours from GZ to Chengdu. Trains from there to Xi'an are about 16 hours. Xian - Beijing about 16 hours and Beijing - Shanghai about 14 hours on the trains. Flights obviously a lot quicker. And thank your lucky stars I'm a mad poster - took me a month reading Loney Planet and Rough Guide to pull this information! |

Flights to/from Hong Kong ---> anywhere in Mainland China are considered international flights. Thats the reason they are so expensive. However, once you fly domestically withing mainland China, the price of flights become cheaper. Although the train is around half the price. But it takes longer to arrive. Whereas in an airplane you arrive within one or two hours to your city destination. |
