what Hangzhou is like on the view of an experenced traveler |

Can anyone give me an idea what Hangzhou is like? I will be there in August. I hear that it is touristy, busy dirty, then others say it is one of their favorites. |

You are going in August which means hot, humid (,and rainy if you come at the end of the month). I think it is a great city to live in, and if you are in Shanghai it is worth a 2 day trip. Email if you have any more questions-- I live there right now. Unfortunately I will be in Canada for almost all of August so I can't show you around or anything. The recommended tourist sites are a good visit, but I especially recommend the hills/temples/pagodas on the north side of the lake (behind the Shangri la hotel) over the area on the south side of the lake (overdeveloped, and the current Leifeng pagoda is from like 1999 and has an elevator). Also head west of the lake into the hills.
The good thing about August is it is relatively tourist free compared to April and October. Again, if you want restaurant recommendations, etc, email me-- kwoolford at gmail.com. Also pick up a copy of "More" magazine while you are there-- poorly written but has some good food and drink advice (it's free and available at many bars, hotels, and restaurants that cater to foreigners).
but you also can check Hangzhou-tour.com |
