If it flys the long-range Airbus A340-500, then I can recommend it. I recently flew Delhi-Toronto in 14 hrs nonstop on a Canadair A340-500 and it I was able to sleep comfortably, sitting up, in tourist class for about 8 hours. Of course, I was going the opposite direction from you, and the sun never came up during my entire flight. The A340-500 seats are great for sleeping: they have a nice adjustable headrest, and they recline in a rocking chair fashion. |

Just came back from Hong Kong to Newark (15 hours nonstop). Flight was Boeing 777300 (or something) Not terrible. Got maybe 6 hours sleep. The seats aren't built for people over 200Lbs, so little cramped for me. Lady in the window seat slept comfortably for over 8 hrs. They all fly the Polar route, and the flights are rather smooth. Still.....15 hours in the air is a long time! |

I took the JFK-PEK flight several times in the past. It was always almost full. It once took 17 hours instead of 13.5. If this is your first long distance flight, it will be difficult. They serve a lot of food during the flight, and show a few movies for you to pass time. But 13.5 hours is a long time.
If you are in New Jersey, take the Continental flight from Newark to Beijing. (Service starts on 6/16.) |
