Hi
I may be going to China with my mom for 2 weeks, arriving in Beijing or Shanghai.

I want to spend 1 week seeing all the highlights (Great Wall, Xi'an etc), and then chill out for another few days in a quiet, non-touristic countryside - ideally, beautiful, green hills, rice terraces etc.

Which regions would be appropriate for this in August?
How much would in spend?

With two weeks you will barely have time to see Shanghai, Beijing, the Great Wall and Xian including travel between them. Distances are huge.
