terracotta warriors-the reason for a trip to Xi'an |
|
|
We are thinking of flying in to Xian from Beijing just to see the terracotta warriors- and flying back the same day! There are plenty of flights and it actually seems possible to do this.Has anybody done this? Is this a totally crazy idea? It's been hard to find out basic info such as how far the warriors museum is from the airport, etc. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks. |

Hi My wife and I went to China in March 2003. We took an overnight train from Beijing to Xi'an, went on a guided tour of Xi'an and then we took a flight out the next day. I have posted more information in a trip report with pictures on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com. Maybe you can find some useful information there :-)RegardsGard |

I just wanted to check whether you know that there are a lot to see in Xian. It would be a shame to run yourselves ragged in one day and go all the way to a place with so much to offer without taking advantage of that. |

I went to Xi'an in the fall of 2002. As mentioned by someone if there was anything else to see, there really isn't. So a day spend in Xi'an would be just fine. I would though leave the next morning in case you do run into unexpected events. If you do take a taxi anywhere in the city, be aware, as they will try to charge you out rageous prices and they can be rude too. I didn't really care for Xi'an out of all the cities I have been to in China. I only went there for the terra-cotta soldiers which was well worth the trip. Any further questions, please feel free to email me. jennifer_k_@hotmail.com Hope this helps. |

I certainly agree with the people who say Xian city is worth a visit for a night. The muslim quarter is fanastic and actually the visit to Xians fantastic drum and bell towers, and the visit to the mosque (amazing!) really stuck in my mind as one of my favourite chinese cities. As far as i remember this is the oldest mosque in china. Xian is unique due to its muslim population and its very starnge seeing such a different cultural side to china. The muslim market etc etc etc.... Plenty to see for a day apart from the soldiers (yeah, about forty minutes away!) I have flown into Xian airport before. You will be harassed by people coming up to you when u arrive asking you to take you to the city centre by coach. This is actually the best and the cheapest way to get to the city centre so i recommend it, despite the fac that they try and sell you a local hotel room too on the way! Especially if ur flight arrives at night. Stay a night and i promise u won't be dissapointed (with Xian's muslim quarter and sightseeing opportunities). I ALSO agree with another user who says a bike ride around the old city walls is worth it! Absolutely fantastic! Hire a tandem!! Bon voyage! |
