China into Pakistan or the other way round?I'm considering to cross the Kunjerab pass on the Karakorum highway around August. Now the last big constaraint is the possible snow cover and pass closure.Anyone knows some reliable sources where to enquire about the last few years, when the pass was repopened and what exactly are the criteria?Some insight would be great, thanks.

As far as I know the road is open between June and October, we went in July so we never had to look up if is actualy true. You can go to this site and ask your question:http://www.travel.web.pk/They have helped me with a question before. As for which way to go...I would do what ever is the most logical for you, cause it really doesn't matter in my opinion.

Last year the pass was closed by the political authorities until July due to the SARS epidemic in China, but it ususally opens between late April and Early June. There wasn't much snow this year so and judging by the fact that the lower passes opened up in late March this year, yeah the Khunjerab should be open by May. Otherwise you can fly to Urumqi from Islamabad.

Khinjrab pass is open from May to October officially, but sometimes you can even cross it in November. But May to October is for sure.
During May to October there will not big snow to block the road, it often happens in March and early April.
