Chinese ATM's |

We should be in the Chinese mainland in 3 weeks or so. I had kind of decided that we would rely on ATM's for our cash since that seems to be what most recommend. However, now I just read that the ATM's in most of mainland China only work if you have an account with a Chinese bank. With the exception of Hong Kong and Macau, my says that my ATM card probably won't work.
. Does anyone else know if this is true? How have you handled cash in China? |

I am in China now. I've used many different banks and I have had the best luck with the Bank of China ATMs... make sure your card has a Cirrus and PLus sign on the bank. Also, don't wait until you really need the $$ to withdraw more bc the ATMS are often out of cash, especially in the smaller cities and towns.
That said, ATMs are much more convenient to use in China than other place in Asia.
bank of China's will work, there is a Citibank in Beijing and there are a few HSBC banks too I believe. Bank of Chinas are ubiquitous and generally reliable. |
