I will be in HK in febuary, and I've extended my trip by about 10 days to be able to go and visit China mainland as well.
Does anyone have any favorite places on the boarder with Hongkong ?
Any tips would be appreciated

Hi Helena.
Welcome to China!
Will you have a trip to the mainland of China? Such as Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Guizhou etc.
8-days are enough to have a roaming trip . Wish you a good travelling at China! |

If you simply want a taste of urban China you can do as many people do-Shenzhen. The beauty of this city is that Being a special economic zone, you can apply for a special short time visa at the border crossing as you arrive . As a tourist destination though, it has little to offer except for pirated goods and of course, excellent and tasty Chinese cuisine.
The next big city is Guangzhou ,capital of the Guangdong province. It's enormous and vibrant, and easily accessible by train direct from Hong Kong.If you hope to find old men fishing with cormorants in rivers surrounded by limestone cliffs you will need to do a proper visa
application and travel into the real mainland, for example to the above mentioned Guilin, which is a popular place for travellers of all kinds. |
