I was thinking about how large of a suitcase can I bring with me? I'm going on the essential China trip, but then I'm also travelling around Australia afterwards for another month.

Just got back from China tour I'd strongly
recommend against a conventional suitcase. Members of my group who had to carry their bags
(except backpacks) regretted not having wheels a few times during the trip .So there is enough self baggage handling that I was
very happy to have wheels on my 29" case.

It shouldn't matter if your going for several weeks
or 2 months. And the larger your bag the less enjoyable your trip will be. I still wish I brought less clothing with me when we went to Uzbekstan.
