Hi VTers,
My travel plan to china coincidentally near the olympic season, though i'm not going to beijing for the olympic, we plan touch down at shenzhen and work our way towards yunnan & silk road. Is this gonna be expensive period? Easy to travel or very crowded? Is this a hot season?

word on the street is that you can only get a tourist visa if you hold an Olympics ticket. And I doubt you would get more than 30 days even in good times.
Yes, it is very hot in July. I don't think there is an expensive period, apart from immediately around the national holidays: Oct 1st, May 1st, etc., when all of China is travelling.
There are 1.3 billion people in China. Tell me somewhere that's not crowded!
