Hi Everyone.
I am going to Beijing in the middle of November with my Husband and 17 year old daughter (can't wait), and then to X'ian, Guangzhou (Canton), and then Hong Kong.
1) I have read that it gets cold there at that time of year can any advise me just how cold it may be.
2) My daughter was hoping to have her photo taking with a panda. Does anyone know if and where this is possible???
3) Some suggestions on the best places to eat the local food expecially Peeking Duck???
4) Where is the best place to shop Beijing, Guangzhou (Canton) or Hong Kong, we are interested in clothes for all ages, souvenires, and electronic gadgets ?
5) Also any other local attractions that are not listed in travel guides?

all your help will be much appreciated.

I was there around Halloween last year. Beijing weather was similar to Denver- cool in the morning, dry, 50's and 60's during the day.
I've been reading about pandas because I'm going back this spring. The places to go for panda pictures are Panda Research Base just outside of Chengdu and Wolong Panda Preserve (2-4hrs from Chengdu depending on the 2-lane highway traffic). The photos are a $150 donation, which helps the preserve's operations.
The 'silk' and 'pearl' markets in Beijing are great for bargains like Chi-pods,hairclips, fake designer purses, the YuanLong silk factory in Beijing is great for silk comforters, little silk purses, silk tops and robes, the Women's Market in Hong Kong is great for knock-off watches, the vendors everywhere have Olympic gear, even at the Great Wall. Of all the electronics shops we visited - such as Wanchai Computer Center in H.K., I can't say they have anything better or cheaper than stores like Best Buy in the USA. Idea

During that time it will be cold in Beijing only , it is the best time to Chengdu for Panda , Hongkong and Cantoon as well .

Panda Research Base is around two hours distance from city , the entrance ticket is 30 RMB (USD4.5) , you daugher can easily take photo with panda (standing two or three meters away from panda) , if she wants to touch and take photoes with Panda you have to pay USD$430 .

"Quanjude " is the famouse Peikeng Duck Restaurant in Beijing , in Chengdu you can try Chengdu "Hot Pot " it is the famouse cusine in Chengdu .

"Quanjude " write it in English like this and show it to taxi driver , driver will take you to Peikeng Duck Restaurant .

Enjoy youself
