Hello all

I am a 24 year old graduate of anthropology and have decided to study Chinese at a university in China for perhaps the whole academic year this September.

Could you recommend a good university in a dynamic city full of the arts, culture, music, nightlife, great food, interesting people. Beijing and Shanghai spring to mind. Would you recommend these cities to study and live in for a whole year?

Where else would you say are great places to live for a while, taking into consideration the university, the city, my interests as well as a good base to travel from.

Thank you! Guy

Beijing University would be mine first choice if I were you.

In terms of culture, arts, night life, food.... you name it, beijing is definitely the best place.

Besides, beijing accent is considered to be the most beautiful accent of Chinese mandarin.

Tianjin, one of the four municipalities in China, is a beautiful city in the middle part of the Chinese coastal areas, backing Yanshan Mountain to its north and facing Bohai Ocean to its east. It is regarded as "the brilliant pearl of Bohai Ocean" with a warm-temperate semi-humid continental climate, four distinct seasons and beautiful scenery. It is only 74 miles from Beijing, but has the advantage of a significantly lower cost of living than that of nearby Beijing. Together with its pleasant atmosphere and convenient conditions for learning standard Chinese spoken language, Tianjin is an excellent location for overseas students. The College of International Education (CIE) at Tainjin University of Technology (TUT) is authorized by the Education Ministry of China to offer Chinese language programs that enable international students to gain proficiency in the Chinese language. Participants range from the beginners to the advanced, who need a strong foundation in the language for various careers throughout the world, who are interested in Chinese culture, or who simply intend to live and travel in China. Apart from the language programs, elective courses such as Kungfu (Chinese martial arts), Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese traditional musical instruments, Beijing opera, etc. are also available.
