Kathmandu to Lhasa in January |

Considering doing an overland group trip from kathmandu to lhasa sometime in the next couple of weeks. Has anybody done one in January or February?
I hear it's cold in Tibet. How are road conditions - are there safety concerns (for example, LP seems overly concerned with road safety in nepal anytime of year, is this significantly worse heading through nepal and tibet in winter)? My other option is to fly into lhasa, so I'm just trying to weigh the differences. Any thoughts appreciated. |

The Highway 318 (From Kodari to Lhasa) is safe even during January and February, the road is opened most of the year.
And you can even visit the Everest Base Camp during this time but 8 February is the Tibetan New Year (Losar) and 7 February Chinese New Year (Chunjie), while the winter should never be a really busy season in Tibet, Losar can be a problem because most Tibetan drivers would go back to their hometowns instead of accepting tours.
Better check it with your tour agency in Kathmandu. |
