First time trip |

Hi there,
I'm planning a trip next year from HK to Beijing before catching the train onto Russia. I want to see all the usual tourist sites but I wouldn't mind seeing a few of the less touristy parts if anyone knows of any?! Im a bit unsure how long to have in each place.
I was thinking of spending 2/3 days each in HK, Shanghai and Xian and ending up in Beijing for the olympics. We will be using the trains to get inbetween (Always use seat61 for travel info!)
Some help would be very much appreciated

Well, it will never be a ENOUGH of time, the trip should depend on how long you will stay.
you don't wanna have a fast-paced trip, do you? so if it's possible, you should stay one week for each city you wanted to visit.
If you're only staying 2 days in one city, it could probably take most of your time finding the sites or getting to the airport. Of course, it will be better if you have a handbook or confidence handling it.
I don't know much about shanghai or hongkong, I guess xi'an is worthy paying more time.
