Studing chinese in China. |

|
Greetings fellow travelers,
I'm heading back to the Middle Kingdom in the coming weeks to look for a good university to study Chinese.
My question is whether any of you out there can share personal experience or advice on studying Chinese in China. Where did you study? Did the coursework challenge you? Were you allowed to live off campus in an apartment?
Please feel free to share your thoughts.
Thanks, |

One thing that you should perhaps consider is the city as well as the university.
In Beijing and Shanghai there are many more foreigners, so you might have less chances to speak Putonghua. If you choose a less popular city, then there are less foreigners, so you have to speak Putonghua or else you don't speak to anyone.
Also remember that while Putonghua is a national langauge, accents can be strong. You would probably be best studying where there are not strong accents. |
