Both Cho Oyu and Shish. BC don't need any unusual permits. Just get your normal PSB and ATP permits that are supposed to have for travel overland including EBC etc.
You also need to pay the Everest Conservation Area Fee (Tingri or at the checkpost before the Pang La) I was at Cho Oyu BC recently and no one checked our permits. Officially we weren't allowed past BC without climbing permits but we hitched a ride up with an expedition truck and happily spent the day trekking around with awesome views and no hassles. The CMA liason officer was kind of grumpy but spoke great English and was friendly enough. There will not be liason officers in either Base Camp outside the climbing seasons.
So you should be pretty free to go where you want outside of spring and fall. (However there is an army post at Cho Oyu BC so they may give you some grief if they are bored!)
Enjoy......both sites are stunnly beautiful and there is unlimitied trekking to do. |
