hello
I have been told by a friend in Guangzhou that I shouldn't need to worry too much about pre booking air/train tickets until I get to China later this month. I hope to be in Xiamen starting Dec 29 or 30th, flying in from Guangzhou.
And be in Wuyi shan( via overnight train from Xiamen) starting Jan 2.
I've been told that Jan. 1 is not a holiday in China. Hence, the mainland Chinese people wouldn't be traveling around.
How accurate is this information? Ok, maybe the mainlanders wouldn't be traveling around, but wouldn't the overseas Chinese on tours be traveling in Fujin province?!
I know there's only one overnight train from Xiamen to Wuyi shan per day and vice versa. Someone please reassure me I'll be okay booking a few days in advance.

New Year Day is actually a holiday in China, 1st-3rd January.
Yes, there is no need to worry about it. There're 2 daily Xiamen -- Wuyishan trains:
N546/N547 (1906--0815) 13h09min
K198/K199 (2214--1137) 13h23min
