We will traveling from Guilin to Kunming. We have heard of a new express train that is direct Guilin-Kunming. Do you know about this train? When does it leave and how long is a ride( I am assuming overnight). How hard would a reservation be - unfortunately we are planning to travel around may first.... or should we forget it and fly?

I have not heard of a new express train from Guilin to Kunming but there are four direct trains between the two cities listed on this site.

The fastest train leaves Guilin at 1900 and takes 19hours 13mins, the slowest train takes 28hrs 54mins.

You can book the train up to 60 days in advance and would always be advisable to book as soon as possible. One way to book is via
www.china-train-ticket.com. They will deliver your ticket to your hotel. It costs a lot more but you do not have the hassle of trying to organize the tickets yourself.

I always prefer to travel by train where time permits becouse you are travelling the way the locals do and you get to see more of the country.
