Help! I am overnighting in Beijing (forced stop-over) on my way to Singapore. I will be there for less than 24 hours so I do not need a visa. However, no one seems to be able to tell me if I will be able to find a hotel for the night. It does not appear that there is a hotel in the Beijing airport but there are some close by. Bottom line question - without a visa can I leave the airport over night or do I have to stay in the airport?

There's a hotel in the basement of the main terminal building. Simply keep on going down. It's opposite a food court, and when I last looked at it had both dorms and pretty comfy doubles (without much light, naturally) for not unreasonable prices--hourly or overnight.

And the closest 'big name' hotel to the airport would be the Holiday Inn Lido, a lot closer than the Hilton, with other newcomers in between there and the Hilton, and the Kempinski, slightly nearer than the Hilton, a better choice than the Hilton itself.
