Shanghai/Beijing Hostels and Rock Climbing |
|
|
Hi. I am going to be backpacking Shanghai and Beijing mid-March. I have checked out various hostels via the internet. Anyone know anything about Maggie International Hostel in Shanghai? Anybody have any opinions on what hostel is better in Beijing (Far East International Hostel OR Downtown Backpackers)? I am looking for cheap, fun place that is easily accessible. I will need to get from the railway in Beijing to whatever hostel I stay at. Also, any thoughts on booking hostels online? Anyone with experience in reservations via the web with www.hostels.com or www.hostelz.com? I have never pre-booked when backpacking in other countries before and I am not sure if it is important for me to pre-book and what online sites are safe. Also, anyone have any info about sport rock climbing around Shanghai and Beijing? I will have my own gear, just looking for places to climb...
Thanks for your help! |

I can definitely recommend the Downtown Backpackers in Beijing very highly! I stayed there for 5 days in Jan and was sorry to leave, because of their friendly and helpful staff and also for the sparkly clean rooms and attached washing facilities, crisp sheets and the feeling of security! The hostel is located inside the 2nd ring road, in a restored hutong area. Inform them in advance and they'll pick you up from the train station for free.
For Shanghai, check out my post about Shanghai Conservatory of Music Guesthouse in the French Concession. I'm been staying here for >1.5 years already and it's got a really good location et al. Tell me if you're coming to stay here!
Cheers! |
