questions on travel on Sichuan - Tibet Highway |
|
|
Hello!
Is it possible to travel (by bus) on the Sichuan-Tibet highway in December (just to Litang and Ganzi)?
I would like to visit some monastries. I know it is probably damned cold up there.
Can I make a loop like Chengdu - Khamding - Litang - Ganzi (continue to the Babang - Dger - Gartuo - Baiyo) and back to Chengdu?
Does it snow intensely in December?
Thanks for the information! |

If you want to go from Litang to Ganzi you will probably have to go via Xinlong and there is no bus from Litang to Xinlong. You can rent a car and driver if you can find one to take you in December. Cost should be about 00 to 500 RMB. There is a bus from Xinlong to Ganzi. All roads are subject to closure due to landslides. You can go from Litang to Zhongdian via Xiangcheng. You might even want to go Litang to Daocheng to Xiangcheng to Zhongdian. It is a great trip, not easy, but doable. Zhongidan's monastery is one of my favorites. I do not recommend the road from Litang to Batang. Essentially all of it is under construction and in December it could be diifficult. If it snows and it probably will, you could be stranded south and west of Litang. Be sure to carry snacks and water with you--lots--just in case. |
