| Influenced by Russian cuisine, local cooking is characterized by the excep- ti0nally heavy use of garlic and a lot of potato. Expensive regional specialities include bear paw and deer muzzle, available in the upnrarket hotels. Staying away from the delicacies, however, food in Harbin is good value with some decent restaurants and, at the fast food end, seven KFCs, two of which are located on Zhongyang Dajie. The Russian-style cafe at the corner of Zhongyang Dajie and Xi Toudao Jie is a nice place to sit over tea or coffee, or try the French Baker); at 174 Zhongyang Dajie, which does inexpensive espresso, cappuccino, ice cream and pizza, and is a good place to chat with locals.
