The
beautiful land of Xinjiang is located in the center of the Eurasian
continent, and is one of the world¡¯s most land-locked areas. Xinjaing
abounds in towering mountains, with the Tianshan Mountains running
from east to west across its central part, the Altay Muntains in the
north, and the Pamir Plateau, the Kunlun Mountains, the Karakorom
Mountains and the Altum Mountains surrounding it in the south. There
are countless lofty peaks which are snow-covered the year around eleven
of which have been opened to tourism, and they have attracted thousands
of brave souls to scale their summits and walk their valleys.
There are also many deserts and gobies in Xinjiang. The world¡¯s largest
shifting desert ¨Cthe Taklimakan¡ªcovering an area of 327,800
square kilometers, is vast and desolate, and its mystical remoteness
has attracted numerous Chines and foreign explorers to find out more
about it. Since the completion of the world¡¯s first desert highway,
natural barriers such as the Taklimakan Desert, the Kumkuri Desert
¨C China¡¯s highest altitude desert ¨C have now turned into thoroughfares,
and with their unique beauty, have attracted countless visitors from
the world over.
Xinjiang is also endowed with many grasslands. China¡¯s biggest alpine
grassland, the Bayinbulak, covers an area of over 22,000 square kilometers,
is extensive and magnificent. China¡¯s biggest swan nature preserve,
Asia¡¯s biggest swan natural breeding ground with a resource of over
seventy-two species of birds¡¯ are all on the Bayinbulak Grassland.
In addition, there are the Ili River valley grassland and the Altai
Mountainous grassland which are ideal holiday resorts offering various
activities for tourists such as sight-seeing on horseback and others.
Xinjiang is blessed with an abundance of basins and oases. China¡¯s
largest basin--the Tarim Basin, and its second largest Basin--the
Junggar Basin, and the countless big and small oases that are scattered
on their perimeters, decorate the desert and Gobi. They have, since
ancient time, contributed of Xinjiang. The renowned Turpan Basin is
known for its ¡°superlative¡± in having the highest temperature,
highest aridity, and lowest elevation¡¡drawing great numbers
of domestic and foreign tourists. The Tarim ¡°cotton sea¡±, the
Junggar ¡°grain storehouse¡± are known the world over, not to
mention the Turpan grapes, Hami melons, Korla pears, Kuche apricots,
Atux figs, and Ili apples which combine to make Xinjiang ¡°the land
of fruit and melon¡±, as it is know throughout the country. There
are also many rivers and lakes in Xinjiang. Rivers number over five
hundred and seventy in all. The Tarim River is China longest Inland
River, with the nickname of ¡°the galloping, unrefined horse¡±
; the Irtysh River, the only river in China that flows into the Arctic
Ocean; the Ili River, the river with the biggest runoff in Xinjiang;
and the Hotan River which runs across the Taklimakan Desert¡¡
Lakes number one hundred and thirty-nine. The Bosten is China¡¯s biggest
inland freshwater lake, and the Hanas is China¡¯s only lake that is
located within the south Siberian Biological belt, and the Sayram
is the largest alpine lake of the Tianshan Mountains whereas the Heavenly
Lake is a well-known tour site, also known as China¡¯s ¡° Lake Geneva¡±.
There are over fifty species of fish in the lakes and rivers of Xinjiang,
not counting those under cultivation. The sturgeon, the carp, the
crucian carp, and the perch, are great in number and high in quality.
The ¡°Loch Ness¡± of Kanas, and the huse sturgeon of the Ili River
are all well Known.
In addition, Xinjiang has over four Hundred and eighty species of
wild plants. Its primitive forests cover an area of over 40 million
mu. Therefore, nature preserves of various sizes in Xinjiang number
over twenty, among which the Altun Mountain Nature Preserve is China¡¯s
largest, covering an area of 45,000 square kilometers.
What other ¡°superlatives¡± are there in Xinjiang well, Xinjiang
is the most colorful, most spectacular, and full of the most fantastic
natural condition and social customs found nowhere else in the world.
Yes, Xinjiang is truly a majestic and majestic and mystical land where
the world¡¯s second highest peak and the world¡¯s second lowest depression
are across from each other , and China¡¯s hottest area and Chian¡¯s
second coldest area exist together, where, if one visits the valleys
in the heat of summer, four seasons of the year are experienced within
a single day, and where wild animals race with cars, and appear to
be domesticated to those who are none the wiser¡¡ the lofty
snow-capped peaks , the verdant grassland, the crystal clear lakes
and rivers, and the desert and gobi, all blend to exude a magnificent
beauty that is unmatched. |
