Trekking
tour with horses in Niru, Shangri-la
Shangri-la is located in northwest part of Yunnan province,
China. It is a Tibetan highland with a lot of snow mountains, alpine lakes,
grasslands, monasteries, white pagodas, praying wheels, yaks, and Tibetan
villages. The center town of the Shangri-la area is also called Zhongdian
or Jiantang. Niru is 75 km to the northeast of Zhongdian, it is 2705 m above
sea level, surrounded by mountains, average temperature is 20 degree, rainy
season is from June to October, the whole area are covered by lush forests.
There are also many lakes in this area, the most famous one is Shudu lake.
This adventure trekking tour with horses will take you into some Tibetan
villages haven¡'t been touched by tourists. You will know why this
area is regarded as Shangri-la.

Arrive
in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province, meet at airport and
transfer to a 4 star hotel in downtown area. |

Take
a morning flight from Kunming to Shangri-la, meet at airport and transfer
to a 3 star hotel in downtown area, then go to visit the Songzanlin
Monastery which was built 300 years ago under the instruction of the
5th Dalai Lama, now there are still 800 monks and 3 living buddhas
inside. |

After
breakfast, drive to the east for 4 hours to Luoji, a big Tibetan village,
after lunch, start the trekking tour with horses. Today, you will
trek about 10 km from Luoji to Hongxing, another Tibetan village,
following the Niru river valley path. The trekking will take about
5 hours. Dinner in local villager¡'s house in Hongxing, or camping. |

Continue
trekking from Hongxing to Niru, another Tibetan village, following
the Niru river valley path. The trekking distance is 9 km and it will
take about 4 hours. Have a late lunch in Niru upon arriving. In the
afternoon, visit the Niru village elementary school, after dinner,
have a bon-fire party with the Tibetan villagers and the students.
Stay in local villager¡¯s house or camping. |

Trekking
about 12 km from Niru to Shudu Lake, it will take about 6 hours, have
picnic lunch on the way. Set up Camp by the lake. Enjoy a bon-fire
party at night. Camping. |

Drive
from Shudu Lake to the Natural Bridge Hot Spring to have a good bath,
then drive to Shangri-la to have lunch, in the afternoon, drive 4
hours to Lijiang, stay in a 4 star hotel. |

Sightseeing
in Lijiang old town which is a world cultural heritage, including
the Square Market in the center of the old town, and the Black Dragon
Pond which is a very pretty park with a nice view of the Jade Dragon
Snow Mountain. Stay in the 4 star hotel. |

Take
a morning flight from Lijiang to Kunming, have a city tour, in the
afternoon, transfer to the airport for your departure. |
