Harbin Hotel Information
Accommodation in Harbin is fairly reasonable, with the exception of during the annual Ice Lantern Festival when prices can leap up by at least 20%. In recent years, a few new hotels have opened and many places have been renovated, raising the general standards of accommodation and service across the city. The result is that today, most visitors to Harbin can find good quality accommodation to suit a variety of budgets.
During the Ice Festival, rooms can be very hard to find however, and it is advisable to book well in advance. Perhaps the best located hotel for this event is the Gloria Inn , a pleasant one kilometer walk from Zhaolin Park, home to the Festival. The new Shangri-La Hotel also has an excellent location, offering first rate accommodation and good service and facilities.
At the top of the range (RMB700-RMB1500), the Singapore Hotel is superb. This used to be the top hotel in the city, but now faces a challenge from the Shangri-La. Prices here are usually a little more friendly however, which should help the hotel remain popular. The New World Beifang Hotel enjoys a good location, near government buildings, the Russian market and the Museum too.
There are a few good mid range hotels (prices range from RMB350 to RMB700). The Kunlun Hotel, and the Shirble Swan Hotel are both recommended. The Gloria Inn is certainly the best in this range however, with an excellent location and charming rooms. For budget travelers, the Petrel Hotel is basic but clean, and offers comfortable accommodation, only a ten minute walk from the train station. |
