Dali Hotel Information
As a famous tourist attraction and considering Dali's status as something of a backpacker legend, there are a wealth of accommodation options in the Xiaguan/Dali Gucheng area.
Although Xiaguan (Dali City), does not have many attractions itself, this modernizing city boasts convenient accommodation facilities and is a good stopover point en route to Dali and other points in the region. In fact, most of the modern, star rated hotels are in Xiaguan. At the top of the list is the four star Manwan Hotel, the Jinda Hotel and the 3-star Xiaguan Hotel. Besides these, numerous hotels are clustered on Jianshe Lu, the city's transportation, commercial and cultural center. Among these are the budget Traffic(Jiaotong) Hotel and Keyun Hotel.
Unless for some insane reason you don't plan to stay over in the ancient city of Dali (Dali Gucheng), then take some time from your China travels and spend several days in this relaxing paradise. The quiet and peaceful atmosphere, the old Bai architecture, and the relaxing nightlife are all good reasons to stay in the ancient city of Dali. Besides the 4-star giant Dali Asian Star Hotel which is probably the most luxurious hotel in town (actually situated on the way to Dali from Xiaguan), there are two star-rated hotels in Dali Gucheng, the Dali Hotel and the Jinhua Hotel. There is a host of unique and charming guesthouses to choose from too. All these places are oriented towards foreigners, and backpackers in particular and they are great places to relax and meet interesting people from all over China and the world. Many also offer a full range of travel related services. Among these places, the most famous are the Yu'an Yuan Garden, the MCA Guesthouse, the Four Seasons Inn and Jim's Peace Guesthouse.
One thing to watch out for are the touts who chase after backapackers on departing the bus in the town! These people are generally after your money and, as accommodation is relatively easy to come by, if you don't mind doing a bit of leg work it is worth ignoring these people and searching about for yourself. |
