Baotou Hotel Information

Since Baotou itself is not a haven for travellers, it does not have any hotels that are of first class facility or price. Since most of the sights are to be found outside of the city proper, most people tend to stay no more than one night, before heading on their way elsewhere.

The city is divided into three districts, Kundulun and Qingshan, in the west of the city, and Donghe, the old section of town, in the east. The eastern area (Donghe) is the most convenient, since it contains the long distance bus station and the main eastern railway station, and is the closest to the airport. The Qingshan District is next best since it is the main residential and shopping district and has some of the city's best hotels, while the Kundulun District has mainly factories (including the Iron & Steel Works) and offices.

Western Section: For budget hotels your best bet is either the Friendship Hotel (Youyi binguan, Tel: 0472-5154624) on Youyi dajie, near the intersection with Minzu xilu, or the Baotou Hotel (Baotou binguan, Tel: 0472-5156655) on Gangtie dajie, just to the west of A'erding Square (A'erding guangchang). The Friendship has triples for about RMB75 and doubles (with bath) for under RMB100, while the Baotou, a comfortable place with a restaurant serving western and Muslim food, has doubles (with bath) between RMB100 and RMB300.
The best hotel in Baotou is probably the Tian Wai Tian Hotel in Qingshan District, that is situated on a roundabout between the three districts of town. For a bit more solitude, the Qingshan Hotel, designed in a garden style and located towards the north of Qingshan District, is another upper end option.

Eastern Section: The eastern section of town, in the Donghe District, has a number of cheap hotels that are mostly pleasant. The cheapest of these is the North Pacific Hotel (Beiyang fandian, Tel: 0472-4175656), at the intersection of Nanmenwai dajie and Bayan tala xidajie, just to the north of the railway station. The North Pacific has dorm beds for RMB22 and doubles (with bath) for RMB90. Also of good value is the Donghe Hotel (Donghe binguan, Tel: 0472-4172266) at 14 Nanmenwai dajie, between the intersections of Bayan tala dajie and Huancheng lu and due north of the railway stations. Doubles (with bath) are between RMB80-100.
