Chengdu,
with a long history of over 2300 years since the
city's establishment, was one of China's first 24
cities given the status of famous historical and
cultural cities by the State Council. Chengdu, called "Land of Abundance", has a vast expansion
of fertile land and rich produce.
Since 500 B. C. when Kaiming 5th, King of Shu Kingdom "moved from Guangdu Fanxiang and established
capital here", Chengdu had ever been a governmental
office-site for district, prefecture, province or
region in ancient times; since the Yuan Dynasty,
Chengdu has been the capital of Sichuan.
Chengdu
could also be called the ancient capital of 6 dynasties,
where, one after another, King Kaiming of ancient
Shu Kingdom, Gong Shunshu of Donghan Period, Liubei
of Three-kingdom Period, Li Te of Dongjin Sixteen-kingdom
Period, the earlier King Wang Jian and the later
King Meng Zhixiang of Shu Kingdom in Wudai Period
founded their kingdoms and established capitals.
Also, Chengdu has, since an-cient times, been a
commercial metropolis with extensive communication
with the home and abroad.
In the Han Dynasty, Chengdu
was one of national top 5 metropolises; in the Tang
Dynasty, it enjoyed honorable endorsement by saying " Yangzhou is the first and Chengdu is the
second "; in the Beisong Period, it was a metropolis
second only to Bianzhou.
