The Hard people are the most common ethnic group in Yunnan with a population,of 1,250000. They are living in Honghe and the middle areas of Lankang River.
In the early 1950's, the Hanis had entered the feudal society. But they lagged behind in level and relations of production, political system and ideology. And the Hanis have their own language.
The Hani people live in houses on stilts. Upstairs rooms are for people and downstairs moms for the cattle. They live on mountain slope and rely mainly on agriculture. Their life is comparatively hard.
The Hani people believe in animism and worship ancestors. We Ranis adopted monogyny. The yong boys and girls enjoy extensive freedom in social contact. There is a "common house" for young people to make an appointment. It is free for people to get married or to divorce. It has become a common practice to respect the old and care the young in every Hani village. The Hani people always welcome friends or strangers with smiling face and warmr greetings. |
