Great Mosque

The Great Mosque (Dongguan qingzhen dasi), built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD) during the 12th year of the reign of the first Ming emperor, Hongwu, is not only the most ancient religious complex in town, but also is one of the most important mosques in northwest China. The mosque is fairly central in the city and so makes for an easy visit. It is good for its atmosphere, since it encloses a large public square that is frequently packed out with bustling, nattering worshippers.

The mosque is not of particularly Muslim architecture, normally easily differentiated from its Buddhist counterparts, but is more in the typical Chinese folk style. Beyond the square itself, the grand Domed Hall, housing up to 10,000 Muslim worshippers at peak times, is the highest Islamic education center in the province.

Address: Dongguan Dajie.
How to get The Great Mosque : In the city center, take bus No.1, 2 or 23.

Opening hours: 8:30am-5:00pm.
