Also known as Chongchong Cuogang, Dongzhulin Monastery is located in the town of Benzilan,on the way from Zhongdian to Deqing, around 100km from Zhongdian county town.
The main building in this Tibetan Buddhist Monastery is a 4 storey construction surrounded by 82 trees. The first floor, or main hall, is the meeting place for monks reciting Buddhist scriptures. A statue of Tsongkhapa, founder of the yellow sect of Tibetan Buddhism stands here.The monastery is also famous for the huge bronze gilded Maitreya Buddha statue and an 11m high Sakyamuni statue which was a gift from the Sera Monastery in Lhasa. Every year, the monastery holds various Buddhist events and activities, which are an excellent opportunity to witness the colorful culture and life of the Tibetan People.
How to get to Dongzhulin Monastery : Take the bus from Zhongdian heading to Deqing and get off at the Monastery. The Monastery is just 3 minutes' walk from the highway.
