The places frescos in Lijiang are mainly distributed in the temples. The where most of the frescos are kept are the Dabaoji Temple,Liuli hall and Dading Tower The frescos were mostly made during the period of the Ming Dynasty
about 1403-1620 A.D. The themes of the frescos ate mainly religions. They combine the Buddhism from the Han people the Buddhism from the the Tibetan people, and the Taoism into one. At the same time, they also combine the styles, of the paintings of the Naxi people, Hart people and Tibetan people
into one.
The frescos in the Dabaoji Temple are the typical ones.One of them is 2.07 meters high, and 4.48 meters wide. In the center of the fresco is Sakyamuni. On the both sides are the gods of Taoism. Around them are the three Buddhas Warrior Attendants in the Mizhong Buddhism, and the Four Heavenly Kings. There are altogether 600 figures in the fresco. All of them are in dffierent shapes, and vivid with bright colours,clear lines, strong contrasts, and obvious characteristics.
The subject mattres are very wide, involving racing horses lotus in blossom, mountains, forests,fields,flowers,birds, insects and fishes, etc. In some of the frescos, there are some figures who are dancing,doing carpentry,weaving,forging iron, splitting,woods,catching fish, killing a big, and
so on. These frescos are avivid, portraiture of the social life at that time and have a rich color of the local life. |
