| Yuantong Temple |
Yuangtong Temple is located on the south of Luofengshan. "l_no" means "a piral shell", "feng" m~ns "peak" or "summit", "shan" means "hill". So "Luofeng-shan" means that the hill looks like a spiral. It is only 5.6meters higher than the metropolitan area. But now because of the tall buildings in the city, you can never find the shape of it. In the fifth year of Dade in the Yuan Dynasty one of the highest officials in Yunnan, Axisi, proposed that a templebe built on the south of l_aofengshan, and gave it the name "Yuantong Temple" Then l_aofeng Hill was renamed as "Yuantong Hill". "Yuantong" is one of the 32 names of Guanyin, (Bodhisattva or the Goddess of Mercy ). The temple was given this name most probably in order to show respect for Guanyin (Bodhisattva or the Goddess of Mercy) and it has a certain auspicious meaning. |
