In
the Garden
One of the main purposes to visit Taihua Temple is toenjoy
the flowers. This temple is noted for its varieties of fi'a-
grant flowers, gnnong those very famous are camellia, magno-lia,
azalea, plum and sweet osrnanthus. Every year in Febru-ary,
the garden is overflowing with the beauties of spring time:
Red camellias and white magnolias compete with each other
for beauty of looks. In August, the garden is inflamed with
autumnal tints: Hundreds of sweet osmanthus trees are in full
bloom, sending out the fragrance miles away to attract visitors.
It is said by local residents that, "One can enjoy the
camellia blossoms in spring and inhale the fragrance of sweet
osmanthus flowers in autumn" People would like to come
here for recuperating and rehabilitating.

viewing Paviion
The pavilion facing Dianchi Lake was obviously built forOne

isa line of verse, "A grand view of jade-green lake stretching
miles away", by Kan Zhenzhao, a famous calligrapher in
the Qing Dynasty. Hence the name, "Viewing Pavilion".
The view of Dianchi Lake is too beautiful to be absorbed all
at once. We are going to stay here for a couple of min-utes.You

nie're Tomb
Nie'er, famous Chinese musician, composer of the Na-tional
Anthem of the People's Republic of China, was bom in
1912 in Kunming, and his ancestral home was in Yuxi county,
Yunnan Province. On July 17, 1935 ,. he was tragically
drowned while swhnming at sea in Fujisawa, Japan. At that
time, he was only 24 years old. The Chinese people lost a
re-spectable musician and local residents lost an intimate
towns-man. Although he lived a short life, he wrote many revolu-tionary
songs which encouraged the Chinese people to be de-voted to
the Anti-Japanese ~rar. Among those songs is"March of
the Volunteers", written in 1935, being assi to be our
national anthem.
The style of the graveyard was designed with distinctive features.
It looks like a huge piano. Seven small gardens rep-
resent seven music scales while twenty-four stone steps sym-bolize
his age. On the tomb stone was engraved a line:
"People's Musician, Nie'er", by Mr. Guo Morou, late
famous writer, poet and social activist.
