It is said that long long ago there was a poor man who went to Dali (a city' of Yunnan Province) to become a monk and was given a Buddhist name "Baozhu" After many years the monk Baozhu went back to Kunming to give lectures about the Buddhist Scripture and along with him hebrought back a kind of young pear trees and planted them in Chenggong County. In memory of him, people called this kind of pears Baozhuli'.

Because Baozhuli is very sweet,and fragrant, it was sent across thousands of miiles tO thecapital as a tribute to the,Emperor in 'the Yuan Dynasty. ChengGong was namedt after the fact that it paid teribute to Empror and the name was given 'by the Empror in person. The name "Chenggong means "the place that gives tribute to the Empror" Thatishow Chenggdhg gets ir is name.

There are many orchards in Chenggong . in: the past When fruits were ripe, people from Kunming went to the orchards in groups.
