Changgang Village has already been over 600 years old since three big families whose surnames are Mo, Chen and Liu moved here. It had been an ordinary village which had nothing different from other villages nearby until the Southern Silk Road was created. The flourishing road brought more and more travelers and businessmen who needed accommodations and meals. Villagers opened hotels, restaurants, shops, did business with travelers and got richer and richer. At the height of thriving, there were more than 10 landlords each of whom owned lands over 67 hectares and so the village gained its name as "Little Nanjing City". Nanjing was the top wealthy city at that time.
The dwellings in the village were built in the Ming and Qing dynasties in ancient Hunan style. Though the walls were destroyed in some degree due to the rain, wind or war, you can still see brick walls, wood beams and stone plinths, delicately-carved window frames which indicate their past glory.
