Lying just to the south of the Putuo Zongsheng
Temple, Sumero's Temple of Happiness and Longevity (Xumi fushou
zhi miao) is the most southerly of the northern temple group. It
was built in 1780 in order to house a visit by the Sixth Panchen
Lama, so the 37,900 square meters of space that is the temple
is designed mostly in a Tibetan form, in the style of the
Shigatse Monastery, the Tashilhunpo. The Panchen Lama eventually
made his visit in 1781.
The temple is still fairly run down, although
at present is being heavily renovated. The main building here
is the Hall of Excellence and Grandeur (Miaogao zhuangyan
dian), a triple-tiered building whose most notable feature
are the eight golden dragons that line the roof. The octagonal
tower at the northern end of the temple, whose roof is prettily
glazed with yellow tile, is also worth visiting.
How to get xumifushou temple: The temple is
the nearest to the intersection of Shanzhuang donglu and Shizigou
lu. It is just south of the Putuo Zhongsheng Temple, on Shizigou
lu.
