In conjunction with the development of the travel industry in Yunnan, Lijiang has acquired a wealth of solid accommodation options. Most of the star rated hotels are located in the new city, while the old town is home to most of the low cost budget guesthouses, situated in renovated old Naxi style courtyards. Lijiang's star rated hotels generally house the better bars in town and employ English speaking staff. Lijiang's budget guesthouses typically have beautiful courtyards where guests can sit, read, and relax. 

Many of the star rated hotels in the new town can be found on Shangri-La Avenue. Among these is the tallest hotel in Yunnan and the only "5 star" hotel in Lijiang, the Guanfang Hotel, and the Naxi Hotel. Others are located around Xinda Jie or near the bus station. The Grand Lijiang, Senglong Hotel and the Black & White Rivers Hotel can all be found here. A few budget hotels can also be found in the new city, including the long famed Guluwan Hotel and the Yuquan Hotel.

Unless you are looking for real luxury, the old town is the nicest area of the city to spend a night or two in. Most of the hotels here are renovated and set amongst traditional Naxi courtyards which boast a rich cultural atmosphere. The Ancient Town Inn is the hotel that most successfully combines tradition with modern luxury. The major budget guesthouses in the area are Dongba House, the First Bend Inn and the Sifang Guesthouse. Most of these places provide sound travel-related services and are good sources of travel information.
